Mayday & May Seedling Sales
April went by in a blink and we’re already celebrating spring at Beltaine/May Day! It was a busy month of field prep, seeding, some early spring harvest of overwintered veg, and the ever-changing dance of working with wildly oscillating temperatures. Temps spiked early in April and the ecologies started sprinting like it was June already! We’re back in the familiarly cool rainy conditions of spring and are taking the waves as they come.
Both of our high tunnels got destroyed in a windstorm mid-March, and, amidst all the usual spring work, we kicked off the month of May by rebuilding the frame and re-shelling one of these tunnels! The frame of the other tunnel was too bent outta shape to use this year, so we’re rollin with one production tunnel this season and we’re finally ready to plant our tomato seedlings. We’ll have juicy, flavorful cherry and heirloom tomatoes for you in just a couple months time!
Bloomfield Saturday Markets kicked off this past weekend and we hope you made it out to buy some spring goodies from our friends and neighbors! We’ll be at the market the next three Saturdays in May (5/9, 5/16, 5/23) with an array of vegetable, herb, and flower starts for your home gardens and some spring veg! We’ll have a different selection at each market as the summer starts fall in behind the cold hearty seedlings of spring, so visit us weekly to catch each wave! We’ll close out the month with a 2-day seedling sale at Mayfly Market in the Northside on May 30th & 31st. Below is a list of seedlings we’ll have available at the various May seedling sales:
Also, at the end of the month, our Farm Store will officially open for weekly ordering on May 29th, with the first pickup/delivery of harvest rolling in on June 4th! We’re so excited to sling our produce and that of our partner producers: John Paul’s Farm, ColdCo, Blackberry Meadows, Pittsburgh Pastures, and Bean World. Meet us in this community supported agriculture model by buying Farm Store credits to use in our online shop throughout the season. You choose your own selection of seasonal vegetables, flowers, meat, and eggs each week from June to November. If you haven’t yet, check out all the details on our website and apply for home delivery if you need it! The fresh greens, root veggies, and herbs of spring are looking vigorous and we can’t wait to share them with you.
